barometer.today sets no cookies, requires no accounts, and keeps no record of who visits it. The only thing stored on our side is a message, if you choose to send one.
1. Who we are
This policy covers barometer.today, an air pressure forecast service run by SimpleMeteo. Our server is in the European Union. You can reach us through the speech-bubble button in the bottom corner of any page, or at simplemeteo.com/contact.
2. What data is processed
Finding your city
When you open the home page, or use the "use my location" option in the search box, your IP address is used to estimate roughly where you are, so a reading can be shown without you searching first. The lookup runs on our own server against a local copy of the IP2Location LITE database. Your address is not sent to any outside service, is not stored, and is not remembered between visits.
The site never asks your browser for your exact location, so you will not see a location permission prompt.
Analytics
We use Simple Analytics, a privacy-first analytics service based in the Netherlands. It sets no cookies and does not follow individual visitors between sessions or between sites. What it records is which pages were opened, where visitors arrived from, their browser and their country.
We also count a short list of fixed events, to see whether a feature is used at all: which pressure or temperature unit was chosen, sea-level or local reading, theme, language, whether location detection was used and worked, whether the install prompt was shown, accepted or dismissed, whether a city was saved, unsaved or reopened, whether a sister-site link was followed, and whether feedback was opened, sent or failed.
Each event is a single fixed word. It is recorded, as page views are, together with the page it happened on and the visitor's country, so an event on a city page is counted against that city. That is as specific as it gets: no names, no addresses, and nothing that would let us pick one visitor out from another.
Feedback
If you use that button to send feedback, we receive your message, whether you chose the positive or negative rating, the page you were on, your language and the time. That is stored in a file on our own server, and nowhere else. A notification is sent through Telegram to tell the maintainer that a message has arrived; it carries only the rating, the page and the language, never what you wrote.
Your IP address is held in memory for up to an hour so that one sender cannot flood the box. It is never written into the message.
We ask for no name, email address or telephone number, and there is no reply unless you include a way to reach you. Please do not put anything sensitive in the box.
Server records
We keep no access logs: no IP addresses, no visitor records of any kind. Cloudflare sits in front of the site to route traffic and block abuse, so it handles each request and keeps its own logs under its own policy.
3. What stays on your device
Everything in this section lives in your own browser's storage, on your device. None of it is sent to us or kept on any server, and all of it goes when you clear this site's data in your browser.
If you change a setting, it is kept under barometer-prefs: pressure unit, sea-level or local reading, temperature unit, theme and language. Cities you save are kept separately under barometer-favorites, each with its name, country and public geographic identifier. Until you change or save something, neither exists.
The site also stores a small offline helper, which caches ten fixed files when you first visit: an offline notice, the web app manifest, the site icons and the flag font. It holds no readings and nothing about you.
4. Cookies
We set no cookies at all: no tracking, analytics, advertising or preference cookies. Settings are kept in your browser's own storage instead. The only cookies that can appear on this domain are ones Cloudflare's abuse protection sets when a request looks automated; they hold a security token and nothing about you.
5. Third-party services
| Service | Role | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare (US) | Routing and abuse protection | Every request passes through it, including your IP address |
| Simple Analytics (NL) | Analytics | Page views and fixed event names, with country. No cookies, no personal data |
| Telegram (non-EU) | Alerting the maintainer that feedback arrived | The rating, page and language only. Never your message |
| IP2Location LITE | Location database | Nothing. It is queried on our own server |
Forecast data comes from our own copy of the model output, so your browser never contacts a weather provider. Fonts, flags, map tiles and icons are all served from this site. Apart from Simple Analytics and Cloudflare, opening a page contacts nobody else.
6. Your rights
If you have sent feedback, you can ask us to delete it: quote enough of the message and roughly when you sent it, and it will be removed. Beyond that we hold nothing about you to show, correct or delete, because there are no accounts, no profiles and no visitor records here.
You can also object to any processing described above, and you can complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live.
7. Children
The site is a general weather service and is not aimed at children. It has no accounts, no user-to-user messaging and no profiles. The feedback box is the only place anything can be typed, and we ask that children do not put personal information in it.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
9. Contact
Questions about this policy can be sent through the feedback button in the bottom corner of any page, or via simplemeteo.com/contact.
